Discussions about necessity of strengthening contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol

Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov, in a meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Moldova Ulrike Knotz, discussed the necessity of strengthening contacts between Chisinau and Tiraspol at all the levels so as to identity solutions to the problems faced by the people from both sides of the Nistru River, IPN reports.

The Reintegration Office said the officials conferred on the current situation in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, the activity of the working groups and the prospects of continuing the negotiations in the 5+2 format.

“We are ready for dialogue and want this to be consistent and to produce results for the people’s benefit. Though we are now going through a tenser phase in our dialogue, we consider that it must be overcome so that we could return to a productive working process aimed at achieving results favorable for the people and the business sector, not at promoting one’s political ambitions. The people need viable mechanisms that would make their living conditions better and such possibilities exist,” stated Victor Osipov.

For her part, Ulrike Knotz said the official Berlin approves of the pragmatic and efficient approach adopted by the Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, including to sensitive issues under negotiation, to security and peacekeeping in the region. The diplomat expressed Germany’s readiness to continue to support the efforts made to resolve the Transnistrian dispute and to provide the necessary assistance, including by offering to organize the Bavaria Conference on the measures to build confidence between the two sides of the Nistru this autumn.
