The Nondiscrimination Coalition warns that homophobe groups in Moldova mislead public opinion and strain the relations between the social groups by using stratagems and spreading false information, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Coalition’s secretary Iulia Marchinski told a news conference that the antidiscrimination bill caused discussions based on false information. “We speak about the problem of discrimination and the discourses that incite discrimination given before certain groups in Moldova. We warn that they are very dangerous and lead to hatred and crime,” said Iulia Marchinski. According to her, there are different groups that openly say that certain persons should be discriminated and promote this idea using false information. In order to manipulate public opinion and hinder the adoption of the antidiscrimination law, homophobe groups infiltrate so-called foreign experts that are disapproved of in the scientific communities of their native countries. They regularly come to Moldova to propagate erroneous information and distorted interpretations. One of them is the U.S. expert Paul Cameron. Doctor of Biological Sciences Roman Croitoru said that in his public appearances Paul Cameron is presented as an U.S. psychologist and/or sociologist, who bases his assertions on scientific arguments. “Judging by the program of his previous visits to Moldova, we can anticipate that there will follow a new wave of conferences, articles and programs where Paul Cameron is presented as an expert, while his pseudoscientific statements are taken as supreme truth, without being questioned,” said Roman Croitoru. The representative of Amnesty International Veaceslav Tofan said the organization he represents is concerned about the worsening of the situation of the minorities in Moldova during the last two years. “The state is obliged to protect the people and I urge all the public servants and politicians to refrain from instigating hatred,” he stated. The Nondiscrimination Coalition announced that on October 25 it will stage a peaceful protest against the instigation of discrimination in front of the cafeteria of the State Chancellery, where Paul Cameron will take part in a roundtable meeting.
