Disciplinary proceedings will be brought against suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo following a public post and statements made for the press. The Superior Council of Prosecutors accepted the relevant request of acting prosecutor general Dumitru Robu, who considers that Alexandr Stoianoglo damaged the image of the prosecution service by his actions, IPN reports.

On February 10, Alexandr Stoianoglo published a post entitled “Right of reply”. According to the acting prosecutor general, provisions of the law on the prosecution service and of the Prosecutor’s Code of Ethics and Conduct were violated by this.

“The prosecutor is obliged to obey the deontological norms and to refrain from acts that can harm the image of the prosecution service or the prestige of profession of prosecutor. I think the image of the prosecution service and the investigation into the unjust enrichment of the ex-MPs conducted by prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office were affected,” stated Dumitru Robu.

He noted that Alexandr Stoianoglo implied that all the actions taken by the prosecutor are nothing but an attempt to distract the people’s attention from daily problems. Such unsubstantiated statements discredit the prosecution service and the prosecutor in charge of the case.

Dumitru Robu considers Alexandr Stoianoglo also broke the ethical norms when he made statements for the press. He said Stoianoglo is obliged to remain impartial and not to level personal criticism. The Prosecutor’s Code of Ethics and Conduct says the prosecutor should refrain from public comments on the work done by other prosecutors and should not make offensive, denigrating statements.

As a result of deliberations, four members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors voted in favor of disciplinary proceedings, with time for conducting the relevant procedures being offered.
