The prosecutor general brought disciplinary proceedings against eight judges who examined the case started against the carabineer who shot dead a young man in Elizaveta village and submitted these to the Superior Council of Magistracy. The legality of the actions of the prosecutors in this case will also be determined within disciplinary proceedings instituted by the Prosecutor General’s Office, IPN reports.
The actions were taken after the PGO examined the procedural mistakes made by the judges and prosecutors involved in this case and the liability of each of these is to be established.
Even if the culprit was sentenced to 17 years in jail at the end of last year, he is to be released from custody as he can no longer he held in preventive detention.
A man aged 23 was shot dead by an employee of the North Regional Division of the General Carabineer Inspectorate during a fight in Elizaveta village of Bălți municipality on January 13, 2020. The common law court sentenced him to 17 years in jail, but the Bălți Appeals Court recently decided to send the case back for retrial owing to a procedural mistake made by the judges of the ordinary court. Meanwhile, the period of preventive detention expired.
