Disaster in Nemteni: water advances by one meter per hour, over 100 houses collapsed

More than 100 houses fell down in Nemteni village of Hancesti district after the local protection dam burst at about 10pm yesterday and many houses were flooded. “The situation is critical. The water advances by one meter an hour,” the mayor of Nemteni Gheorghe Mardari has told Info-Prim Neo. The over 200 evacuated families were accommodated at the local school and kindergarten. A large part of people went to their relatives. Many did not manage to save their property,” Gheorghe Mardari said. “More than 200 employees of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service work to fortify the protection dams and drainage channels so as to protect the homes,” said the Service's spokeswoman Dorina Cruc. Cotul Morii village, from where 200 persons have been evacuated, and Dancu village run the risk of being flooded. The cadaster engineer of Dancu village of Hancesti district said the level of water of the Prut fell by 7 centimeters compared with yesterday, when Nemteni was inundated. Three mobile teams of the Emergency Service are on guard in Nemteni. Nobody needed medical care yet.
