Ahead of the new school year beginning on September 1, 9 million lei have been allotted from the State Budget to provide material aid to disadvantaged families with children through local social support funds. The beneficiary categories and the amount of aids will be established through the decisions of the fund's administration councils, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family announced that choosing the recipients from among children of school age in needy families will be done together with local education institutions and the town halls' public commissions for evaluating the needs for material aid.

In Chisinau, lump-sum aids of 700 lei per child will be provided from the Chisinau Municipal Fund for Social Support. The overall aid amounts to 5.6 million lei.

In total, 14.6 million lei will be allotted nationwide, 30% more than last year when 24,500 disadvantaged families with school-age children received support.
