Dirk Schuebel: Radical measures will not help Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac
The Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel in a news conference said that the radical measures will not help in the case of Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac. “Certainly we want this prisoners to be released, but it is rather improbable that radical measures will help these persons,” he stated.
The statement was made after the Association “Promo-Lex” sent a letter to the Moldovan authorities, demanding taking legal action against the unconstitutional Transnistrian authorities, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Dirk Schuebel said the informal negotiations are productive, but the official Chisinau should be patient with the resumption of the official talks in the 5+2 format. “Patience is needed. All the aspects should be thoroughly analyzed. We hope to convince the Transnistrian authorities that it is in their favor to resume these discussions,” said the Head of the EU Mission to Moldova.
The Ambassador also said that for this year the EU planned a package of measures aimed at building confidence between the banks of the Nistru. Each package will have a budget of €12 million. “It is a much larger sum than until present and we will bear greater responsibility for drawing the two banks closer,” said Dirk Schuebel.
The next round of informal negotiations in the 5+2 format will take place in Vienna in April.
