The Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel Friday had a meeting with the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov as part of a ceremony held to open a perinatal ward in a Tiraspol hospital. The ward was set up with financial support from the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. On its website, the Transnistrian TV company PMR says that the European official and Igor Smirnov discussed humanitarian initiatives that are projected to be carried out in concert with the European Union. Dirk Schuebel said the EU will continue to support the implementation of a number of projects and educational programs in the region. For his part, Igor Smirnov thanked the EU for the provided assistance. The Transnistrian leader also said that the observers at the Transnistrian conflict settlement process must remain impartial and objective, while the official Chisinau should fulfill the commitments laid down in the documents signed so far in the negotiation process.
