Dirk Schuebel, Eugen Carpov have farewell meeting

Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel in a farewell meeting assured Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov that the European Union will continue to support Moldova’s pro-European aspirations and the necessity of definitively resolving the Transnistrian dispute based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, Dirk Schuebel underlined the necessity of continuing the reforms and of stepping up the measures aimed at building confidence between the people living on the two banks of the Nistru.

Eugen Carpov thanked the Head of the EU Delegation for the assistance offered to the Moldovans during his stay in Moldova, underlining the major role played by the EU in the process of modernizing the country. The two officials highlighted the support provided by the EU in the process of settling the Transnistrian conflict both as a participant in the talks in the 5+2 format and by projects, initiatives and the assistance offered to Moldova.

Dirk Schuebel was named to post in 2009. He will be replaced by Pirkka Tapiola, former European External Action Service advisers on the developments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
