Director of state company under investigation

The director of a state-run company located in Floresti town is being investigated for abuse of power. The company, in which the state owns a holding of 83.75%, specializes in grain cultivation, storing and selling. Vitalie Briceag, head of the Ministry of the Interior’s Frauds Division, told a news conference that in 2007 the company’s administration took out bank loans of 20 million lei, pledging the company’s assets without convening the General Assembly of Shareholders. The pledged property was valued at 65 million lei, Info-Prim Neo reports. Thus, the company’s administration created conditions for the appropriation of state property and for the exercise of negative influence on the economic-financial process. As a result, the company became insolvent. The suspect functionaries are investigated for abuse of power and exceeding of authority and face up to 10 years behind bars.
