Digital form of green card becomes mandatory from 1 January 2025

From 1 January 2025, Moldovan motorists will only be able to buy the digital version of green card insurance certificate, the National Bank of Moldova announced in a press release.

The central bank says that the implementation period of the new digital process will last two months and will be divided into two stages. The first stage, transitional, will start on November 1 and end on December 31, 2024. Until then, the hard copy version of the insurance remains mandatory.

From January 1, 2025, in the second stage, the green card will only be obtainable in digital format. Certificates issued until 1 November 2024 in the current format, on paper, will be valid for the entire duration of their validity.

The NBM explained that the green card certificate will be digitized in order to simplify the process of obtaining this type of insurance and to increase its level of security. “Insurance companies and intermediaries will be responsible for carrying out the transition, as the NBM will supervise the entire process”, the central bank.

The green car insurance certificate is an international motor insurance document, which certifies that the vehicle owned by the driver is covered by compulsory motor third party liability insurance when traveling outside the country of origin.
