The European Parliament decided to implement digital driving licenses in the EU member states by 2030, IPN reports.
According to the agreement, the new rules aim to increase traffic safety and introduce a mandatory probation period for new drivers and strict rules for drunk drivers.
The new driving licenses will be accessible on smartphones and will have the same value as the physical document.
EU statistics indicate almost 19,800 deaths in accidents last year, 3% down compared to 2023.
The safest European roads are in Sweden and Denmark, while Bulgaria and Romania are at the bottom of the rankings.
