Difficulties faces at customs post on first day of visa-free travel to Turkey

A number of difficulties were experienced at a customs post on June 1, when the Agreement on the Reciprocal Abolition of Visas between Moldova and Turkey took effect. The Moldovans who flew to Antalya were asked to show the entry visas for Turkey when they landed, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Europeans Integration said this is singular case of the kind. The personnel on duty that checked the passports on that flight didn’t know about the changes that came into force on June 1.

In a communiqué, the Ministry says the Turkish authorities assured that all the border crossing points were informed about the abolition of the visa regime between the two states so that no such cases happen in the future.

Under the Agreement on the Reciprocal Abolition of Visas, the citizens of the two countries who hold a valid travel document – ordinary or biometric passport – are exempted from applying for an entry, transit, short-stay or exist visa for the other state from June 1. They can stay on the territory of the other state without visas for 90 days within six months.
