Differing opinions about parliamentary hearings on bank frauds

The debates on the frauds committed in the banking system held in Parliament on December 2 represented nothing else but blackmail against the PLDM plotted by the PDM, lawyer Ion Dron, who heads the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“Surely, many MPs trembled when they learned that the prosecutor general will come to Parliament. This was brought to determine the PLDM to ultimately take part in the negotiations to form a ruling alliance. Corneliu Gurin presented his report behind closed doors not accidentally. His report laid the basis of the future alliance. The theft of the US$1 billion counted less,” stated Dron.

Constitutional law expert Vitali Catana disagreed with such an opinion. “I think those discussions were welcome. Even if a part of the Parliament’s sitting was held behind closed doors, particular things will come out sooner or later. I hope the cases concerning the bank frauds will be brought to an end and the money will be restored. Things started to move on slowly,” he stated.

Roman Chirca, director of the Market Economy Institute, said not many things were said in the special sitting of Parliament. “It was strange when an MP asked what schemes were used. It’s known that loans were taken out by phantom firms and the money was then transferred abroad. The schemes are very simple. It’s clear that without political coverage, implementing these schemes would have been impossible,” he stated.
