The European Parliament’s decision to delay the provision of €100 million in financial assistance to Moldova is a consequence of the political struggles inside the legislative body in Brussels and a signal that the European partners do not trust the Moldovan government. Such conclusions were formulated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan said such a decision was awaited. “It is a bad signal for Moldova. But it is a clear signal that the European partners do not have confidence in this government,” he stated.
Economist Viorel Chivriga noted the Europeans lost confidence in the government of Moldova. “I do not think that we should welcome this step, but we must understand that the Republic of Moldova is no longer regarded as a success story. It is now regarded as a country of surprises. The law should be respected. The legislative process should be in accordance with the legal norms and we will then get financing,” said the expert.
Ion Dron, chairman of the Center of Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring, said the European Parliament’s decision is a political one. “This is very bad for the Republic of Moldova. This decision affects us seriously. Besides paying commissions, the authorities should also meet all kinds of conditions,” he stated.
The Democratic Party’s spokesman Vitalie Gamurari described the delay in providing financial assistance as a consequence of the political struggles inside the European Parliament and of the pressure exerted by particular parties.
