The government coalition’s candidate for minister of defense Eugen Sturza has nothing in common with defense. Also, he is not the candidate of the European People’s Party of Moldova, as they want to show, but is very close to the Democratic Party, said politicians invited to the talk show “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel, IPN reports.
Unaffiliated MP Lilian Carp said the fielding of this candidate actually confirms the existence of an alliance in Parliament between the Democratic Party and the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM). “If until now this party (PPEM – e.n.) showed to be only a satellite that does not have too many political preferences, today we see that this satellite has particular claims as to the government,” he stated.
Socialist MP Bogdan Tardea said this candidate was adviser to ex-Premier Vlad Filat when raider attacks were committed and headed the office of ex-Premier Iurie Leanca when the US$ 1 billion was stolen. He was one of the notable members of the youth organization of the PDM and his father was a Democratic leader in Nisporeni. “This is not the PPEM’s candidate, as they want to present things. He is very close to the Democratic Party,” he said.
Ex-minister of defense Alexandru Cimbriciuc wondered if Eugen Sturza realizes what the post of minister of defense means. This will need very good deputy ministers and a secretary of state to avoid making mistakes. “Maybe someone nominated him for this post because he is not competent in this field and is a non-military person so that he accepted to become minister of an institution that he would not be able to manage. But this would be a very big mistake,” stated the former minister.
Deputy chairman of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Alexandru Slusari said Eugen Sturza has nothing in common with the National Army and his managerial skills are very modest.
On September 12, the leader of the Democratic Party Vladimir Plahotniuc announced that the deputy chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Eugen Sturza is the ruling alliance’s candidate for the post of minister of defense. Eugen Struza was head of the office of Iurie Leanca when the latter served as Prime Minister.
President Igor Dodon informed that he will not accept Eugen Sturza for minister of defense because the National Army should be managed by a professional who knows the particularities of military management.
