Even if it had won fewer seats of MP, the Party of Action and Solidarities (PAS) would have gained an absolute majority in Parliament in the July 11 elections without the vote of the diaspora, ADEPT executive director Igor Boțan, stated in a news conference at IPN.

It’s true that PAS was voted massively by the diaspora – by 86.23% of the voters there, as against the score of 2.46% gained by the Communist-Socialist bloc BeCS, according to the preliminary data. But the votes gained inside the country by the pro-presidential party would have been enough for a “stable victory” anyway, noted Igor Boțan, referring to speculations that the diaspora’s vote changed the political configuration in Parliament”. More exactly, inside the country PAS won 47.9%, BeCS – 30.6%, while the Shor Party – 6.6%.

Another conclusion reached by Igor Boțan from the results achieved inside the country, is that fortunately, sociology functions well in the Republic of Moldova. According to the ADEPT executive director, four of the five polls that investigated the voting intentions in January-July provided results that were very close to the final ones, taking also into account the margin of sampling error. It goes to iData, Magenta, CBS-Research and [imas].

This also applies to telephone polls carried out in the electoral period. Owing to the high refusal rates (some of electoral contenders urged directly their supporters not to take part in these surveys), even the organizers feared these pols would not properly reflect the voting intentions. “But it turned out that these telephone measurements, especially those conducted in June by CBS-Research together with WatchDog and the Institute for Public Policy, were of a very, very good quality,” stated Igor Boțan.
