The citizens of the Republic of Moldova abroad, who return home in August, can get involved in an extensive program of activities dedicated to the Diaspora Days. On August 16, the Doors Open Day will be staged at the Government of the Republic of Moldova, at ministries and subordinate institutions, where members of the diaspora will have the opportunity to discuss with officials. Likewise, a forum for young people and a festival that will highlight national traditions and culture will be held. “We want to get to know each other better during the Diaspora Days, to celebrate our unity, strong bond and culture,” the Government’s secretary of state Ana Calinici stated at a news conference during which details about the events organized on the occasion of the Diaspora Days were presented, IPN reports.

The series of events begins with the DOR Program involving 100 children from Belgium, Canada, Ireland, the UK, the U.S., the Republic of Moldova. They will learn more about the traditions and culture of the Republic of Moldova. A number of activities have been planned for young people, including craft activities and folk dances, theater, Romanian literature and trips to picturesque places of the country.

On August 16, the Government Building will host the Doors Open Day to give members of the diaspora the opportunity to ask questions and come up with suggestions and proposals regarding the activity of the institutions. On the same day, a roundtable meeting on the cooperation between the diaspora and the Government will be held. “The experience of citizens abroad is very valuable for us,” said Ana Calinici, noting that the role of this discussion is to ensure that the expertise of the diaspora is fully integrated into the processes of implementing public policies.

Also on Friday, August 16, the young people who returned home will be invited to participate in the third edition of the Diaspora Youth Forum, organized by the League of Students from the Republic of Moldova. Another event for young people will be organized by the International Republican Institute, in cooperation with the Central Election Commission. The importance of participating in elections will be discussed.

On Saturday, August 17, the “See you at Home” Festival will take place. It will involve the country’s leadership: President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The National Youth Orchestra of Moldova, Cătălin Josan, Felicia Dunaf, Pasha Parfeni, the dancers of “Hecenii” Ensemble and “Mocănașii” Ensemble will perform on the stage of the event. Entrance is free of charge.

Entrepreneurs are invited on Sunday, August 18, to a new edition of the Diaspora Business Forum. On Sunday evening, “Mihai Eminescu” National Theatre will host the show “Leaves of Longing” by Ion Druță, directed by Alexandru Cozub. Access is based on tickets.
