The Moldovan diaspora from about 20 towns from all over the world mobilized to support the European integration course of Moldova before the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit. On November 24, hundreds of Moldovans took part in public events staged by the diaspora and adopted a statement that was submitted to the authorities of the states of residence and to international organizations, IPN reports.
Public events were held in Paris, Strasbourg, Nice, Roma, Padova, Florence, Bologna, Torino, Montreal, Vilnius, Lisboan, Porto, Geneva, Athens, London, Stockholm, Brussels, New York etc. The organizers of the events said the mobilization of the diaspora in support of the European integration is a powerful signal that the Moldovans from abroad send to the EU authorities only several days before the Vilnius Summit.
“Several years ago, Moldova became fully involved in the European integration process. The historical option of becoming part of the civilized Western area is a natural continuation of the transformations underwent by the whole Southeastern Europe over the last 15 years. Today Moldova is close to the first serious assessments of its pro-European course.
“Before the Vilnius Summit, we, the citizens and friends of Moldova, ask the authorities of the state where we live to continue to support the pro-European aspirations of our country,” reads the statement.
At the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit of November 28-29, Moldova is to initial the Association Agreement with the EU, which will definitively transform the European integration into an irreversible process.
