The leader of the Democratic parliamentary group Dumitru Diacov cannot be fielded for the post of President of Moldova because of his criminal activities, the chairman of the Public Association “Pro Europa” Boris Asarov said in a news conference. He stated that such a secret agreement was reached by the PDM and PCRM, while Dumitru Diacov was proposed by the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin himself, Info-Prim Neo reports. Boris Asarov said that Dumitru Diacov is a swindler, contrabandist and corrupt person. After he went into politics and was elected Head of Parliament in 1998, Dumitru Diacov became the owner of two expensive cars and bought another two luxury cars for his daughters. The Democrat MP also purchased an apartment not far from “Valea Morilor” Park to the value of US$350,000. “Smuggling became a family business. His daughters were arrested by the police and anticorruption officers more than once,” said Boris Asarov. According to him, Dumitru Diacov was involved in an electricity swindle and now Moldova has debts of 1.4 billion lei to the Ukrainian company “Energoalians”. Boris Asarov said that when Diacov served as Speaker he used the power in personal interests, taking money from the public budget, the pensioners’ funds and the social funds. “In 1998-2000, the pensioners and budget-funded employees did not receive salaries and pensions for several months in a row because of Dumitru Diacov,” said the head of the NGO. Boris Asarov also said that after the November 28, 2010 elections, Dumitru Diacov fielded his brother Ion Diacov for the post of prosecutor of Chisinau municipality, while Ion Diacov’s brother-in-law Boris Focsa – for the post of minister of culture. Boris Asarov stressed that Boris Focsa, abusing his position, influenced the termination of lease contracts signed by creation unions for offices in the building located at 24 Pushkin St. That building, which is owned by the Ministry of Culture, was later leased out to one of Dumitru Diacov’s daughters. Natalia Diacov, who pays for that building 1 euro per square meter a month, leases it out for 25-30 euros per square meter. The chairman of the Public Association “Pro Europa” said that prosecutor Ion Diacov is a criminal, who can release any offender in exchange for recompense. “He had close relations with a criminal group in Chisinau. In 2001, when he was municipal prosecutor, he set free the criminal group known as “Yujnaya” (“Southern”) for US$300,000. The given group committed dozens of murders in Moldova and Ukraine. The Security and Information Service, the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor General’s Office posses all the information about Ion Diacov’s activities,” said Boris Asarov, adding Ion Diacov also blackmailed economic entities in different situations, including the company JLC. Boris Asarov said that one of Dumitru Diacov’s daughters married a Lebanese citizen - Mahmud Hammud, a former member of the terrorist organization “Hezbollah”, who was expelled from Romania and is wanted by the Interpol. According to Asarov, Dumitru Diacov helped his son-in-law to change his name from Mahmud Hamud into Mihai Diacov. The head of the NGO “Pro Europa” called on the law enforcement bodies to open an investigation into the affairs of Dumitru Diacov and his brother Ion Diacov. He said he has enough evidence to support his statements. Asked where he has this information from, he said he himself conducted investigations.
