The social mission Diaconia has launched a campaign to collect funds for orphans titled “Be Santa Claus for an Orphan!” The event will take place at the Chisinau-based Shopping MallDova center, which helps organize this campaign, Info-Prim Neo reports. On December 18, 20 and 21, children from residential institutions that remained without parental care will give Christmas concerts for the visitors of the shopping center, at 13.00 and 14.00. “The campaign is aimed at creating a Christmas atmosphere for the children from residential institutions, reestablishing these children’ ties with their biological or extended families and making their parents more responsible. We will also assist in reintegrating the children in their families,” said the president of Diaconia mission, Igor Belei. Inside the shopping mall, Diaconia will place a Santa Claus box-sack for collecting money, made by the children from the local social centers of the mission. The box will have the inscription “Be Santa Claus for an Orphan!” The raised funds will be used for the project “Towards Family”, which is carried out by Diaconia at the Leova Boarding School. “We intend to provide a set of social services for these children. It will include transportation from the boarding school to their homes and aid in the form of school supplies, clothes and footwear,” said Igor Belei. The social mission Diaconia is the social body of the Bessarabian Metropolitan Church founded in 2003. Since 2006, Diaconia has worked with 178 children from the boarding school as part of the project “Towards Family” and managed to integrate 42 children. Diaconia hopes to include another 15 children in the project, using the funds that will be collected during the campaign.
