A Diabetes School for children of all ages is to be opened in Tiraspol. The children will be taught not only how to prevent acute and chronic diseases, but to also manage the level of sugar in blood and to adjust themselves to treatment. The decision to open an information office for small patients and their parents was taken admit reported rises in cases of diabetes among children, IPN reports, quoting the local press.
A number of 82 children have been diagnosed with diabetes in the Transnistrian region. The smallest patients will attend the Diabetes School together with their parents, while those of a school age individually. The training courses will include documentary films, educative games and exercises to determine the level of sugar in blood.
Transnistrian specialists say the population is insufficiently informed about the influence of the body weight on the appearance and development of diabetes. Diabetes develops slowly and without significant signs. 30% of the persons with diabetes go to see a doctor when complications typical of the disease appear.
