The Fiscal Code amendment that transfers the responsibility for funding VAT repayments to businesses in Gagauzia from the national budget to the regional one has been suspended. The Constitutional Court decided this today after postponing its judgment on the merits.  

There are two requests pending before the Court on this matter, one submitted by the Gagauz legislature, and another one from the Communist-Socialist bloc.

Before being suspended, the amendment had been in effect since November 1, 2023.

The Constitutional Court has been examining the matter over the course of several sittings already. The Court was expected to hand down its ruling by 4:00PM today, but an hour later it eventually announced a postponement until March 5, citing the complexity of the case. Until that time, the amendment in question shall be suspended.
