Developments related to Transnistrian issue discussed with OSCE representative

In the next round of talks in the 5+2 format, besides the subjects stipulated in the Berlin Protocol, there will also be discussed other problems related to the ensuring of the free movement of people, goods and services between the two banks of the Nistru, the problem of Moldovan-administered Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region, opening of the bridge on the Nistru River between Gura Bicului and Bacioc etc. Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan informed about this in a meeting with the Special Representative of the Austrian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, Wolf Dietrich Heim, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Reintegration Office, Gheorghe Balan said Moldovan authorities’ efforts are aimed at ensuring continuity in the 5+2 format talks, which are the basic platform for identifying a political solution to the Transnistrian conflict, by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.

There was also examined the intention to stage the traditional Bavarian conference entitled “Confidence building measures in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process” in the nearest future to assess the developments in the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol and stimulate the process. Another discussed theme was the institution of joint control on the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border, on the central (Transnistrian) segment of this. The interlocutors emphasized the advantages and benefits for the Transnistrian population and business entities.
