Development of Moldova-U.S. relationship discussed at Government

Moldova is giving special attention to cooperation with the United States, which it regards as a strategic partner, declared prime minister Pavel Filip at a meeting with U.S. ambassador Derek J. Hogan. The prime minister expressed his gratitude for the constant support offered by the United State in implementing democratic and structural reforms, and in strengthening institutional capacities, the Government said in a press release.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the post-election situation in Moldova and said that the parties that entered Parliament should show political maturity and work together to form the Government in a manner as transparent as possible and which puts the public interest first.

Pavel Filip and Derek Hogan also discussed the continuation of the program with the International Monetary Fund, the implementation of the local public administration reform and the expansion of bilateral economic cooperation. In April, a mission of U.S. businesspersons interested in investing in particular in the fields of industry, agriculture, ICT and tourism will arrive in Chisinau. Later in April, Moldova will be also visited by a delegation of the United States Congress.

Pavel Filip stressed the importance of capitalizing on the strategic dialogue with the U.S., stating that the Republic of Moldova continues to count on U.S. support and assistance to ensure the sustainable development of the country based on Western values.
