A prisoner held at Penitentiary No. 3 in Leova tried to escape in the morning of June 6, at about 06.20, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Department of Penitentiary Institutions, when coming closer to the internal forbidden area, the detainee was told to stop. But he ignored the guards’ warnings and went on. The warrant officer fired a warning shot and the prisoner stopped. A reserve group and a team of supervisor of the penitentiary’s Regime and Supervision Service went to the scene and caught the detainee. The 40-year-old man was sentenced to seven years and six months’ imprisonment for theft and hooliganism and has been in jail since 2008.
