Details in case of Taraclia home blast

The police do not rule out the possibility that the January 22 explosion in the house of a man from Samurza village of Taraclia district was caused intentionally. Neighbors said the house owner lived alone and earlier tried to damage the gas pipe himself.

Major Igor Stoianov, head of the Antifire Service of the Taraclia Emergencies Division, has told IPN it is alleged that the man damaged the gas pipe in the kitchen and left home, being seen by locals in the village. When he returned, he switched on the light, causing thus the explosion. The firemen presume gas had leaked for at least four hours. The man is lucky to have escaped.

The man suffered from mental disorders and recently returned from a psychiatrist hospital. He was under no one’s care. His mother died over three years ago. The wife of his brother brought him food.

The 48-year-old man suffered head and hand burns and was taken to the Taraclia District Hospital by an ambulance.
