The right to vote is exercised in the settlement in which the elector has the domicile or residence. If the voter has both domicile and residence, this can cast the ballot in the settlement where there is the valid residence. In the snap parliamentary elections, the students eligible to vote who study in a settlement where they do not have the domicile or residence can vote at any polling place established in this settlement by obeying several conditions, IPN reports.
To be able to vote, the students must present the identity card together with the accompanying loose leaf and the student’s card issued by the education institution from the given settlement. They will also fill out and sign an own responsibility statement on refraining from multiple voting and will be informed about criminal liability for not respecting this condition.
As the snap parliamentary elections this year will be held during the summer vacation and the students can be in another settlement than the one where they have the valid domicile or residence, the Central Election Commission said these should declare the new place of stay to the local public authorities (mayor’s office or district heed’s office) by June 10 inclusive so as to be put on the additional voter rolls at the poling station at the place of stay.
The statement to declare the place of stay is submitted in person by the applicant after presenting the identity card with the accompanying loose leaf in the original and a copy.
The students can also get a voting certificate that enables them to vote at any other polling place in the country. The certificate is issued by the electoral bureau of the polling station at the previous domicile during June 21 – July 10. Based on this, on the election day the citizens can ask to be put on the additional voter rolls, while the certificate remains at the electoral bureau of the polling station and is attached to the additional list.
To check the correctness of the data included in the State Register of Voters and the polling station to which they were assigned at the last elections, depending on the domicile or residence, the voters can visit verifica.cec.md. Later, after the electoral rolls are compiled, the information will be updated and the lists could also be checked at the electoral bureaus of polling stations.
