The car of the Sculeni mayor’s office that fatally hit a nine-year-old girl on the Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni road was travelling to Ungheni on business. There was the driver and the deputy mayor of the village in the car.

The mayor of Sculeni Vasile Casian has told IPN that he travelled to the scene immediately after learning about the accident. Both the driver and the deputy mayor were in a state of shock. The two said there was a truck travelling in front of them. At a certain moment, this went past the girl who was riding by the roadside, turning suddenly to the left. The car driver didn’t manage to stop and hit the bicycle from behind.

The girl lived with her grandparents as her parents were working abroad. It is alleged that she was going to her relatives in the neighboring village.

The accident occurred in the afternoon of September 19. The driver took an alcotest and this showed the man wasn’t inebriated. He was arrested for 72 hours and faces three to seven years behind bars and ban on driving for a period of at most four years.
