Representatives of the opposition parties and civil society, who are members of the Civic Forum, said the participants in the protest scheduled for April 24 will seek the government’s dismissal and the holding of early parliamentary elections simultaneously with the presidential ones. In a news conference at IPN, the members of the Forum said that people from all the country’s districts will come together in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau. These will carry the national flag. The protest will be peaceful and effort will be made to prevent instigators from infiltrating into the crowd.
Civic Forum member and one of the leaders of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Vasile Nastase said the government fulfilled no demand of those put forward by the people and did no reform. The protesters consider the current Parliament does not represent the voters’ will and this was ‘captured’ by the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc, who usurped the power. Therefore, he is the one who should make sure that Parliament is dissolved.
Vasile Nastase noted that the protesters asked that Vladimir Plahotniuc and his inferiors should be in Chisinau on April 24. People delegated by the protesters will go to him to agree the date of early elections. If this does not accept the people’s demand, the organizers and the protesters will decide what subsequent steps to take.
Civic Forum member Ianina Spinei called on the people to be united and to take to the streets on April 24 to demand rights and to request that those who are to blame of the bank fraud should be held accountable.
Chiril Motpan, Civic Forum member and a leader of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, said Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan assured the protest organizers that the police will not hamper the event and will become involved only to maintain public order.
The organizers said the April 24 protest will involve people from all the districts of the country. There was drawn up a map of the routes along which the participants in the protest will travel to the event and of the points where these will meet. At 12 noon, the columns will reach the Great National Assembly Square. Those who will take part in the demonstration are asked to outfit themselves appropriately in case the protest lasts for several days.
