Details about discussions held in closed-door sitting of Parliament

In the closed-door sitting of Parliament that centered on the regional situation and the risks faced by Moldova, the lawmakers found out about the planned visits of Moldovan officials to Russia and vice versa. Suggestions were made to reduce the propaganda through the Russian mass media in Moldova, said the MPs invited to the program “Good Evening” on Moldova 1 channel, IPN reports.

After the hearings, Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the people must know if the authorities keep the situation under control. “We do not experience a problem in the country, including in Gagauzia. If we say that there is a problem now, we will split society. The most serious danger for Moldova now is not the conflict in the neighboring country, but rather an internal conflict and the division of society,” he stated.

According to Liberal-reforming MP Vadim Vacarciuc, the internal situation is under control, but everyone must be prudent. “Our people are influenced by the Russian media. It was suggested replacing the news and political debate programs on the Russian channels with something else,” said the politician.

Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu said a number of lawmakers in the hearings wanted to know if Moldova subscribed to the penalties imposed by the EU on Russia. “I understood that Moldova does not intend to make common case with the EU and the U.S. against Russia. A number of courtesy visits are set to take place,” he stated.

Ion Ceban, MP of the Party of Socialists, said the hearings were an ordinary farce. “We found out nothing from the competent authorities. We found out from the media that Moldova aligned itself with the EU penalties against particular Ukrainian citizens. I think the people must be able to take part in a referendum to say what course the country should choose,” said the lawmaker.

In the March 21 hearings, the lawmakers questioned representatives of the Foreign Ministry and of the Security and Information Service about the country’s security following the situation created by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which led to the joining of the Crimean peninsula to Russia.
