The child aged about two weeks, who was abandoned in an apartment building in Chisinau in the evening of February 6, is at the municipal clinical hospital “Gheorghe Paladi”. The law enforcement bodies are taking measures to identify the woman who gave birth to the girl, while the responsible authorities will choose a protection form for the baby. The subject was discussed in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

The head of the General Division for the Protection of Children’s Rights Zinaida Micleușanu said the Division is taking steps to identify the child’s mother in cooperation with the Police Inspectorate. Doctors said the girl’s state of health is satisfactory.

Zinaida Micleușanu noted that the most efficient form of protection for the child is to be decided.

According to the Chisinau Police Division, the baby girl was found on the sixth story of an apartment building situated on Ștefan cel Mare Blvd. The child was wrapped and there was a bag with clothes near her. Criminal proceedings were instituted in this case.

In the middle of January, the body of a newborn baby was found in a park on Mihail Sadoveanu St of Chisinau. There were no visible injuries on the body of the baby girl. The mother hasn’t been yet identified.

According to the General Police Inspectorate, four cases of infanticide committed during delivery or immediately after giving birth by the mother in a state of mental confusion were investigated last year. The crime is punished with up to five years in jail.

There were also eight cases of leaving of children in danger and two of the involved children died. Under the Penal Code, the intentional leaving in danger of a person who cannot save oneself due to early age is punished with a fine of up to 27,500 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service or up to two years in jail. The same deed that results in serious bodily injury or death of the victim because of imprudence is punished with up to four years in jail.
