Details about admission to universities

Admission to universities, for bachelor degree studies, starts on July 20 and ends on August 31. According to the Ministry of Education, the students will be able to file applications simultaneously to several specialties, from different areas of professional formation, at one or several universities. These will be yet admitted to one specialty, at one higher education establishment of those to which they applied, IPN reports.

Head of the Ministry’s Higher Education and Science Development Division Nadejda Velishko told a news conference that five new specialties were introduced this year, including an agricultural science specialty about the safety of food products. There are more novelties at the Academy of Arts. There are 170 specialties for bachelor degree studies at universities.

The admission contest is common for the budget-funded places and the contract places. The candidates are enrolled based on the average contest grade in descending order. The contract places will be filled by those who will fail to get a budget-funded place. As the previous years, 15% of the number of budget-funded place will be intended for particular groups of disfavored candidates.

Nadejda Velishko said each higher education institution has the right to institute admission tests and to use its own admission methodology. In most of the cases, tests are taken at the artistic and sports institutions. As to the tuition for the current academic year, the decision whether to rise it or nor is taken exclusively by the strategic development boards of the institutions. The Ministry was informed about increases of several hundred lei for particular specialties.
