Details about 23-year-old woman who succumbed to COVID-19

The woman aged 23 from Bălți, who died from COVID-19, worked at a local filling station and, before being rushed to the hospital in a serious state, treated herself at home for a week without consulting a doctor. The information was provided by the head of the Bălți Health Division Feodora Rodyukova.

Feodora Rodyukova has told IPN that the young woman was admitted to the hospital in Bălți in the afternoon of April 27 in an extremely serious state, with renal insufficiency and acute respiratory failure. She died in several hours. The samples taken to Chisinau for examination confirmed the diagnosis of COVID-19 posthumously already. It is not yet known where the young women became infected, at the workplace or at home. The Health Division is to identify the persons with whom she contacted so as to find the source of infection.

Contacted by IPN for details, Mihaela Petrova, PR specialist of the Bălți Clinical Hospital, said the 23-year-old woman was brought by an ambulance in critical condition. She was immediately transferred to the intensive care section of the Emergency Admissions Department. There are now 98 patients with COVID-19 at the Bălți Clinical Hospital.

/16.11/ The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, in a response to IPN, says the young woman was transported by an ambulance to the Bălți Clinical Hospital in a very serious state at 5:46pm on April 27. Samples for COVID-19 were taken. The young woman was intubated and subject to all the resuscitation measures. The medical personnel offered her the necessary medical assistance, but she could not be saved and died in about two hours of the admission. The next day at about 3pm, the presence of COVID-19 was confirmed. Before being admitted to the hospital in a serious state, the young woman didn’t go to the family doctor or the hospital.

The novel coronavirus in Moldova has claimed 109 lives so far. The young woman from Bălți, who was buried today, is the youngest victim by now. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection today informed about the death associated with COVID-19 of a man aged 82 from Chisinau and of a 79-year-old woman from Ocnița.
