Works to design and build regional hospitals in Bălți and Cahul will begin in 2023. These hospitals will be outfitted with high-tech equipment to provide services that are now provided only in Chisinau, such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and cancer services, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco stated in a news conference.
According to the official, no hospital in the Republic of Moldova will be closed when the two regional hospitals start work. In the district hospitals where fewer women give birth, some of the pediatric wards will be turned into wards for older persons who suffer from chronic diseases.
The regional hospital in Bălți will serve about 300,000 patients in northern Moldova, while the regional hospital in Cahul – about 120,000 patients in southern Moldova.
A part of the specialists who will work in the two regional hospitals will be brought from other hospitals of Bălți și Cahul, while another part will be detached from Chisinau hospitals. Several young specialists will be involved in internships abroad and will then return to work at these hospitals.
The building of the regional hospitals will be financed by the European Investment Bank and the Council of Europe Development Bank.
The regional hospital in Bălți will start work earlier as a pre-feasibility study was already conducted for it. It is estimated that the two hospitals will be ready to treat patients within three years.
