First Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pantea said he became the target of a media attack that is aimed at denigrating him and exerting pressure on him. In a news conference, the prosecutor said that some of the state institutions cooperate with the criminal world, especially members of the criminal group Makena, while the prosecutors who are investigating this case are pressured into destroying the evidence, IPN reports.

Last week, the press reported that Andrei Pantea, misusing his authority, helped the driver of his service car to escape jail. ”They are now trying to damage my image before the public opinion. I do not exclude that they want to remove me from my post after being unable to convince me to abandon this case. They try to denigrate the prosecutors who represent the state prosecution in this case,” said Andrei Pantea.

He added that the Prosecutor General’s Office is obliged to continue investigating this case despite the pressure. “A day will come when I will demonstrate the scheme used by some of the state institutions to cooperate with representatives of the criminal world. I possess information that they plan media attacks against me,” said the first deputy prosecutor general, who refused to give the names of persons who exert pressure on him.

A paper published an investigation saying that Pantea’s driver took bribe from a man arrested for double murder for helping him avoid punishment. According to the authors of the investigation, the driver promised the other man that he will convince his boss to hush the case up in exchange for a sum of money. After a part of the money was taken, the prosecutor refused to help the arrested man and the latter filed a complaint against the driver. Thus, Pantea intervened to help his inferior.

Andrei Pantea said attempts are made to denigrate him by looking for a connection between him and the man arrested for the murder, who turned out to be from his native village.
