Deputy Prime Minister Osipov meets with Tiraspol's new chief negotiator

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov on September 25 had the first meeting with the new political representative of Tiraspol for the Transnistrian conflict settlement Vitali Ignatyev, IPN reports.

After the meeting, which was held behind closed doors, the sides made statements for the press separately, saying the main subjects discussed were the ensuring of the free movement of persons on both sides of the Nistru, the regime for vehicles registered on the left side of the Nistru and economic aspects. The sides also agreed that the expert working groups will convene in the near future.

Victor Osipov noted that they also discussed the problem of farmers who do not have access to their farmland located on the left bank of the Nistru.  This problem will be included again in the agenda of the working groups.

As to the problem of the vehicles with Transnistrian license numbers, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Transnistrian side exaggerates this issue. A study showed that the people are affected by the restrictions imposed on these vehicles to a smaller extent than the Transnistrian authorities assert.

Victor Osipov also said that they discussed the so-called Bavaria conference that is to take place in Germany at the end of October, provided that the sides make progress in preparing a number of documents.

Vitali Ignatyev said that the pace of dialogue is kept high and this shows positivism, but there are yet negative aspects related to the activity of the working groups, which meet seldom and are not very productive. Tiraspol does not understand some of the positions of Chisinau and the working groups should examine the existing problems and propose mechanisms.
