Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration about new round of talks in “5+2” format

A new round of Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the “5+2” format will take place if solutions are identified to three problems that have been discussed by the chief negotiators of Tiraspol and Chisinau for a period. The three issues are: phone interconnection between the two banks of the Nistru; free access for the Dubasari farmers to their farmland situated in the security zone and return of the buildings to the Moldovan-administered, Romanian language schools, IPN reports.

After the meeting with the political representative of Tiraspol Vitaly Ignatiev held in Bender, which involved the Special Representative of the Austrian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Wolf Dietrich Heim, George Balan said solutions to the three issues could be found. “If we manage to identify palpable solutions to the mentioned matters in the nearest future, a new round of talks in the “5+2” format will be organized. The experts will continue work on the given issues,” he stated.

Currently, international tariffs are charged on the telephone communication between the two banks of the Nistru. As to the farmland, the inhabitants of Dubasari haven’t had access to their land located beyond the Rabnita-Tiraspol road for several years. The problem of Moldovan-administered, Romanian language schools is very old. The Transnistrian side pleads for transferring these schools under the administration of the Transnistrian authorities.
