Deputy Minister Popov urges Russian side to refrain from harsh comments

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Popov, in a telephone discussion with his Russian counterpart Grigory Karasin, called upon the Russian side to refrain from statements that can make the situation in the Security Zone tenser. The call was made following the tragic incident at a peacekeeping post that resulted in the death of an 18-year-old man. Vadim Pisari was wounded mortally from a gun by a Russian peacekeeper near Vadul lui Voda, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Popov asked the Russian side to actively cooperate in the investigation of this case. The interlocutors stressed the importance of objectively and swiftly examining all the circumstances of the incident. Until now, the Russian side’s position on the incident was expressed only by the Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Valery Kuzmin. After a meeting at the Ministry on Monday, the diplomat said that Vadim Pisari was drunk and drove a stolen car. In a communiqué, the Russian Embassy in Chisinau says it will follow how the investigation is conducted and expresses its conviction that the competent Russian and Moldovan bodies will take into account all the circumstances of this case, including the fact that the victim flagrantly violated the post crossing rules, was drunk and drove a car that did not belong to him, damaged the safety barrier, posed a threat to a peacekeeper and did not stop even when warning shots were fired.
