Banca de Economii on October 1 started paying indexed savings to the depositors born before 1947. Initially it was planned to make indexed savings available for the depositors born before 1943. But after assessing the applications submitted, with a total value of 40.6 million lei against 85 million planned in the budget, it was ascertained the list of indexation recipients can de extended. The depositors born before 1951 may submit applications for indexation until 31 December 2007 to any location of Banca de Economii. At the first stage, depositors will get 1000 lei each at a ratio of 1 leu: 1 soviet rouble. The rest of the amounts will be indexed at a ratio of 1: 2.5, but only after all the depositors that held accounts in Sberbank before 1992 receive the first indexed thousand roubles.
