The bill to modify the electoral system proposed by the Democratic MP contains also provisions concerning the dismissal of mayors, IPN reports.

The document placed on the Parliament’s website adds a new letter and a new point to the Election Code’s articles that regulate the organization of local referendums. Under the bill, a referendum on the dismissal of an MP or a mayor can be initiated after collecting the signatures of at least 1/3 of the people eligible to vote who live in the given uninominal constituency or territorial-administrative unit.

Now the legislation provides that a local referendum is initiated with the signatures of 10% of the number of people with the right to vote who live in the given territorial-administrative unit. The informative note to the bill does not say that the draft law adds provisions regarding the dismissal of mayors.

The Democratic Party announced that it aims to replace the current party-list proportional representation system with a uninominal voting system so that the MPs are elected in 101 uninominal constituencies.
