The Democratic Party is seeking to become the most influential political force before the next parliamentary elections. The statement was made by PDM deputy leader Vlad Plahotniuc after the meeting of the party’s Political Council on May 11, Info-Prim Neo reports. 230 out of 260 members of the PDM Political Council met on Friday to discuss the party reform. Party leaders declared that besides becoming the leading party, PDM intended to attract new voters and members of other parties before the next elections. Vlad Plahotniuc, the man in charge of the party reform, announced the party would have an open-doors policy. “We’re not the party to hold on to functions for the sake of it. We know that it’s hard to be in power and to come without any achievements before the people during elections, people who have certain expectations. That’s why we must take concrete and categorical decisions when needed”, said Vlad Plahotniuc. Plahotniuc also declared he would not run for party leader at the Political Congress in June because he supported Marian Lupu. Asked if he would run for party leader, Marian Lupu said he had no alternatives. According to him, the near future would bring a revitalization of the party by increasing the efficiency of the team, the number of members thanks to the open doors policy, changing the status and the program and perhaps even the logo. Marian Lupu didn’t rule out even a doctrine change towards the left. Marian Lupu explained the special reasons behind the reform, the main one being the fact that political processes in Moldova entered a new a stage after the end of the political crisis and the election of the President. “These new times mean stability, but also new challenges, opportunities and goals for the Democratic Party”, said the PDM leader. The idea of reforming the Democratic Party was unanimously supported by the members of the Political Council. Currently, PDM has 13 MPs and its leader is Speaker Marian Lupu.
