The Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) is complaining of being attacked both by the opposition Communists and by partners from the Alliance for European Integration (AEI). In a commentary issued by the party's press service today, the PDM reminds the coalition colleagues that it contributed decisively to the change produced in the summer of 2009, while reproaching the Communists for being responsible for the fact that Mihai Ghimpu became acting president. “The right-wing accuses the PDM of being insufficiently rightist, and the left-wing accuses us of being insufficiently leftist. But the idea that the PDM is categorically against any manifestation of extremism, no matter the source, brings rage upon our opponents”, the commentary reads. “It was the Communist Party that installed Mihai Ghimpu into the country's highest post by refusing to vote for the presidential candidate (Democrat leader Marian Lupu – IPN). It was the Communist Part that drove the country into a political crisis, into a new electoral cycle, by refusing to participate in the formation of the state administrative bodies”. The PDM notes that the process of transforming the county following the European pattern is again at risk as Moldovan society is thrown into disputes relating to the past. “The initiative of Speaker and acting president Mihai Ghimpu concerning the date of June 28, the issue of the communist symbols, the amendment of the legislation governing the principles of national policies in Moldova have again sparked conflicts within society and divided people, distracted the public attention from important issues concerning the country's modernization and the overcoming of the political crisis”, the PDM says in its statement. The party says it will further make efforts to put an end to political battles, “despite attacks from left and right”.
