Representatives of the Party of Socialists and of the Democratic Party met for discussions in the Parliament Building in the morning of June 7. After the meeting that was held behind closed doors, these said they cannot give too many details about the consultations, but detailed information will be provided in the second half of the day, after the meetings of the National Council of the PSRM and of the National Political Council of the PDM, IPN reports.

The Democrats were the first to make statements for the press. PDM vice president Vladimir Cebotari said they told the Socialists that they pursue only one goal – to form a parliamentary majority and the Government based on a special program that will make people’s lives better. The PDM pleads for the implementation of the Moldova - EU Association Agreement at an accelerated pace, but wants to be on friendly terms with everyone and to improve the relations with Russia as well.

Vladimir Cebotari noted that in the second half of the day, the National Political Council of the PDM will come together for a meeting to discuss this exchange of opinions and information with the PSRM. More details will be provided later.

For his part, the PSRM’s secretary for ideology Ion Ceban said the Socialists listened to Democrats’ rather many proposals and will analyze them. These will be communicated at the meeting of the Party’s National Council that is set to start at 3pm. The Council will also discuss the stage of the discussions with the Political Bloc ACUM. “We will take decisions based on the available information,” he stated.

Asked why representatives of the PSRM didn’t go to the discussions initiated by ACUM, Ion Ceban said the Socialists waited for a common statement from the two constituent parties of the Bloc, the PAS and PPPDA. “We haven’t yet seen such a common statement as there were many divergences between what the two parties declared,” he noted.
