The Democratic Party (PDM) is ready to concede the post of Head of Parliament in exchange for that of Prime Minister, Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said in the program “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
“The PLDM had the right to propose the candidate for premiership during six years because it held the largest number of seats in Parliament. Now the PLDM no longer holds this position and the post of Prime Minister should be filled by a representative of the PDM. We are ready to assume government. Andrian Candu will resign from the post of Speaker if this post is not held by the Democratic Party,” stated Sarbu.
He noted that the PDM has discussions with the unaffiliated MPs so as to secure their support in the formation of the future government. “Now we have 19 seats in Parliament, but there are also unaffiliated MPs who could support us. We are looking for votes,” he admitted.
The MP leveled criticism at the PLDM. “We hoped a lot to have a government and we hoped that our colleagues from the PLDM will show responsibility. We cannot answer immediately their question about the apolitical Premier. This is a hypocritical position – they held the post of Premier for so long and proposed nominating an apolitical person as Prime Minister only now,” he stated.
MP Vadim Pistrinciuc, who is the deputy head of the PLDM, expressed his surprise at Sarbu’s statements.
“A cold shiver went down my back. It’s clear that you want the post of Prime Minister. On the other hand, you accuse the PLDM because it’s easier to blame someone else,” he said.
Liberal lawmaker Lilian Carp described the situation as a struggle between the PDM and PLDM. “It is a game of Ping-Pong between the two parties for the post of Premier. We in 2010 didn’t hold supreme state posts, but voted for the necessary reforms. The PL does not claim the post of Prime Minister,” he stated.
