Democratic parties will announce talks’ results after Constitutional Court pronounces on election outcome
The PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN will make public the results of the talks after the Constitutional Court passes its decision on the quality of the July 29 elections, the leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance Serafim Urecheanu has told Info-Prim Neo.
Asked if the negotiations continue, Serafim Urecheanu said that the reporters see only ‘the top of the iceberg’. “Yesterday (August 6), we all four had meetings with representatives of the World Bank and discussed the future relations with the Bank and the IMF for two hours and a half. The representatives of the international organizations said they will initiate the cooperation with Moldova when a consensus is reached,” Urecheanu said.
“We are now discussing fine points. We will be able to ensure the people’s welfare and take the country out of this deep crisis, similar to that from the 1990s, only with the help of the World Bank,” the AMN leader said, adding: “We do not want to experience the sad tradition of the Moldovan politicians who yearned for posts. We do not intend to form a declarative, but a functional coalition that could take the country out of the mud in which we are stuck up to the years.”
Earlier, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat said that the results of the talks between the four parties could be announced on Monday, August 10. In an interview for the Romanian publication “Evenimentul Zilei” (“Event of the Day”), Filat said that he would like to hold the post of Speaker of Parliament.
“I think that the presidents of the four parties will reach a decision by Monday. As far as I know, there appeared certain animosities,” said the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov.
Diacov also said that according to the European tradition, the party that obtained most of the seats in the Parliament takes over the responsibilities of the Government. “In our country, heated discussions take place over who will hold the post of head of Parliament,” the former leader of the PDM said.
The PL leader Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on August 5 that the four leaders have discussed 99.9% of the issues concerning the formation of the government coalition and the results will be made known before the first sitting of the Parliament set to take place late in August
The Constitutional Court will pronounce on the results of the July 29 early parliamentary elections within 10 days of the day when the Central Election Commission submitted the election outcome report to it (August 6).
The talks between Filat, Ghimpu, Lupu and Urecheanu were opened last week, immediately after the preliminary election results were announced. Together, the four parties will hold 53 seats in the Parliament. They will be able to name the Speaker and the Prime Minister, not yet the head of state, who is elected by the vote of 61 MPs.
