Democratic Action Party concerned about press freedom in Moldova
The yet-to-be-registered Democratic Action Party is concerned about the numerous cases of limitations of the freedom of expression in Moldova and proposes a draft law introducing criminal responsibility for censorship and illegal obstructing of mass media activity, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Parliamentarian Mihai Godea, PAD leader, told a press conference on Friday that the recent cases of abuses against journalists and mass media institutions were worrying.
“We call on the Magistrates’ Superior Council, the Supreme Justice Court, the Ministry of Justice and other relevant institutions to contribute as much as possible to the implementation and application of European jurisprudence in the examination and solving of media related cases”, said Viorel Chivriga, founding member of PAD.
His colleague, Corneliu Gurin, said that PAD wanted a public debate on this legislative proposal and on the situation of mass media in Moldova.
The PAD members spoke about cases involving hoax newspaper clones in the recent election campaign, the abusing of a journalist at the Slavonic University and the 500,000 fine Ziarul de Garda must pay to two Glodeni prosecutors whose names appeared in an investigative story.
