On September 5, the people in Moldova offered the political class exactly what they received during the 19 years of independence. The constitutional referendum showed the people want the governors to be replaced, members of the party “Democratia Acasa” (“Democracy at Home”) said in a news conference on September 7, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We did not expect pensions and salaries from this Government, but reforms, changes and modernization. But we received only promises and witnessed internal fights,” said the party's leader Vasile Costiuc. According to him, the young people did not take part in the referendum because they are tired of the promises made by the politicians who do not take care of the ordinary people. “The problem is very serious. During a year and a half, the young people expected justice to be done. If the governors had imprisoned those who are to blame for the April events, 70% of people would have voted in the referendum and supported the political class. But they struggled between them and neglected the people,” Vasile Costiuc said. The party's secretary general Alina Stavila said the Moldovan political class was educated by a parasitical system and it is infected with a virus that cannot be cured. According to her, 70% of those who form part of the present Government earlier brought the Communists to power. “How can we trust Mister Filat, who voted with the Communists in 2005? The people showed they did not forget it. Lupu, who became Democrat overnight, and the others also form part of the old Communist system. The people did not support them not because they are Democrats or Communists, but because they form part of a discredited generation,” Alina Stavila said. Another representative of the party, Arcadie Ceban said the ruling parties care about their personal interests more than about the people's interests. “The low voter turnout in the referendum is not because of the Communists. The Moldovan people do not want to be treated like a herd. Young patriots who were bough up and educated not by the Communist system should come to power,” Arcadie Ceban said. The party's spokeswoman Maria Diminet said that after the referendum the political leaders tried to find a scapegoat. “During 19 years, this people have had confidence in the political class. If 70% of the Moldovans ignored the plebiscite, it means that 70% of the decisions made by the political class were to the people's detriment.” said Maria Diminet. The turnout of voters in the constitutional referendum was 29.05%.
