The Reinhard Mohn Prize 2025 was awarded to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, during a ceremony in Germany.
Attending the event, the head of state noted that the distinction represents "a recognition of the work of all those who believe in freedom and are building a better Moldova", IPN reports.
Maia Sandu stated that every day, Moldovans are working towards building a stronger, freer, and more democratic Moldova, an effort "recognized by international partners as well".
The President stated that "this award is about people and communities" and announced that she will donate the associated amount to projects in her hometown, Risipeni.
The Reinhard Mohn Award is granted by the Bertelsmann Foundation every two years. The Bertelsmann Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Gütersloh, Germany. It carries out research projects, develops innovative solutions, and supports democratic reforms.
