The Transnistrian side does not want to talk with the Moldovan side about the demilitarization and strengthening of security on the two sides of the Nistru River. The joint working group for building confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol in the area of demilitarization and security strengthening has held no meeting so far owing to the Transnistrian side’ unwillingness, coordinator of the working group on behalf of Chisinau, Deputy Minister of Defense Igor Panfile has told Info-Prim Neo.
He said that Chisinau sent numerous letters with proposals to meet through the OSCE Mission, but they remained without an answer.
Igor Panfile stated that the representatives of Chisinau in the joint meetings planned to discuss such subjects as the convening of experts to deal with certain problems experienced in the filed, visitation of military units, carrying out of inspections at armament depots, participation in military exercises, exchange of military information between the sides, etc.
The deputy minister said that earlier he met with the coordinator of the working group on behalf of Transnistria in Germany, who said that at that moment Tiraspol wasn’t ready for meetings, invoking the so-called elections that were to take place in December 2011.
“For 2012, we prepared and submitted our proposals concerning the cooperation with the Transnistrian side to the Reintegration Office and are waiting for the Transnistrian representatives’ reaction,” said Igor Panfile.
Recently, it was decided to relaunch the Chisinau-Tiraspol working groups created with a view to promoting the measures aimed at building confidence and security between the two banks of the Nistru River.
